Renting a Winnebago Solis from Blacksford
I planned an epic road trip from Las Vegas to Zion, Arizona, and Utah, and invited my dad and sister. It was their first time in a campervan (and their first time visiting the area!), so I knew I wanted to make it special.
We wanted a campervan for an easy driving experience. Campervans are easier to maneuver and can fit normal parking spots. We needed a vehicle that would be spacious enough to comfortably sleep all three of us, and I wanted one that was on the luxury end, with a kitchen and bathroom inside.
That’s when I discovered Blacksford! They have the luxury 2023 Pop-Top Winnebago Solis RV for rent at their Las Vegas location, so I had to give them a try.
First step: Picking up the van
The pickup process couldn’t have been any easier! When we landed at the Las Vegas airport, we simply texted Cindee at Blacksford. She arrived right away to pick us up and drove us five minutes down the road to Blacksford’s Las Vegas RV rental location.
Once we arrived, Cindee gave us an orientation with everything we needed to know about driving the Winnebago Solis campervan. She taught us how to:
Empty the blackwater and greywater tanks
Turn the water pump on and off
Work the heater to stay warm at night
Use the pop-top bed
and more!
We took a video of her directions to refer to it later throughout our trip if needed.
After about 30 minutes of instruction, we were off! Right off the bat, I noticed that the Winnebago Solis was very easy to drive. It handles like an SUV—but it’s just a little bigger.
Since you can’t see out the back window, the center rearview mirror is actually digital, sourced from a camera on the rear of the vehicle. The van is equipped with Apple Car Play and Bluetooth, so we could listen to our favorite music and get our Google Maps on the screen for navigation.
My favorite features of the Solis
There was a lot to love about the 2023 Pop-Top Winnebago Solis RV from Blacksford. These are just a few of my favorite features:
Convenient Kitchen
I absolutely love the fact that this van has a kitchen inside, complete with a two-burner stove, a fridge, a sink, and a cutting board that pulls out. Plus, there’s enough cabinet space to stay organized! Blacksford also includes all the cooking utensils you need in each RV rental, which is so convenient.
We cooked dinner in the van almost every night. On the road, we were able to easily pull over and make a sandwich when we got hungry for lunch! The fridge was big enough to hold what we needed, and Blacksford was also kind enough to include a six-pack of beer in the fridge when we picked it up! What a great surprise. They really thought of everything!

Indoor and outdoor showers
It’s not often that campervans have a bathroom and a shower in them! We didn’t use the bathroom to avoid having to dump the black water, but it was nice to know it was there in case of an emergency. We did use the shower.
The Winnebago Solis has both an inside and outside shower. The inside shower is tight, but I loved the outside shower! You simply open both of the back doors to the van, attach a shower hose, hang up the shower curtain in between the doors, and there you go—the perfect outdoor shower.
Sleeping arrangements
I love that this van can sleep four people! There is a Murphy Bed in the back of the van, which is nice since you’re able to fold it up in the daytime when you’re not using it for more space to move around.
When you’re ready for bed, you simply unhook the latch and the bed folds out. Blacksford provides sheets, pillows, and Rumpl blankets so once again—you’re all set.
You can also pop the top of the van up and attach the ladder to climb to the upstairs bed. It’s more spacious up there than I envisioned, and it’s nice that there are two zip-up windows so you can get some fresh breeze.
Returning the van
Returning the van was simple. We dumped the greywater at our campground’s dumping station, made sure to fill it up with gas, and headed back to Las Vegas.
We texted Cindee with our estimated arrival time. She was at the Blacksford office waiting for us. Cindee did a quick inspection and then dropped us off at the airport—so easy!
Renting a campervan through Blacksford was easy and such a great experience. The Blacksford staff really do think of everything—from the small touches to the thorough instruction at the van pickup, we felt confident and comfortable the whole time.
